Praia do Forte, the Brazilian ‘Polynesia’: enchanted destiny with unforgettable attractions.
Praia do Forte is the dream destiny to the ones who look for tranquility, nature, leisure and emotion, besides the contact with the native people’s spontaneous cordiality, their dances, habits and handicrafts.
It is dearly called the “Brazilian Polynesia”, a privileged place where the preserved environment is irresistible with its nature that reserves us a permanent show of sun, sand, coconut trees, lagoons, dunes and beaches. It is paradise! Praia do Forte is the first eco-tourism community of Brazil.
There are 12 km of splendid semi-deserted beaches, with natural pools formed by the ebb tide, reserves in Atlantic Forest areas, river rapids, rivers, lakes, dunes and palm trees. The combination of clear water, with mild temperatures, and rich marine fauna make Praia do Forte perfect for diving.
Add to it all a charming Fishermen Village that shelters pousadas, bars, restaurants, boutiques with the latest in fashion and semi-precious Brazilian stones, besides the traditional handicraft shops. There are leisure and entertainment options for all ages, forming a complete infrastructure with a lot of safety, satisfaction tranquility and happiness for the visitors.
The environment preservation concern, and the sustainable development, turned Praia do Forte into a destiny chosen by visitors who want to see endangered animals, such as turtles and whales. This is one of the main places for the laying of eggs and feeding of the five marine turtle’s species existing in Brazil, and between the months of July and November it receives the visit of the enchanting Humpback whales who come to the tepid and tranquil waters of Bahia coast to mate and feed their babies. It also shelters many birds’ species; two hundred and twenty eight (228) species have been catalogued in this region alone.
The highlights of Praia do Forte are the environmental preservation projects, such as Tamar Project, marine turtles, Humpback Whale Institute, and Garcia D’Ávila Foundation.
Praia do Forte Village comes from the Indigenous Settlement of Tatuapara.
An urban plan for these lots parcels has been developed by the architect Wilson Reis Netto, aiming at harmonizing human occupation and the local landscape, preserving the existing green area. Each lot frontal limit is a public green area (alamedas) that, in most cases, give access to the beach.
Praia do Forte is 50 km far from Salvador International Airport and 80 km far from downtown Salvador, through Coco Road, north coast of Bahia.
