THE BEACH / THE VILLAGE
The Fishermen Village is one of the most seducing places in Brazil, where the native people’s traditions live in harmony with the sophistication of the shops and restaurants. It is an old fishermen’s village that still preserves its charm and simplicity. It is part of the Brazilian History because the Portuguese disembarked here in the 1500s, establishing the first contacts with the aborigines, the Brazilian people’s roots.
Up to 2001 all the streets of Praia do Forte were made of sand, today its main and transversal streets are covered with stones. The Village streets offer many kinds of services such as restaurants, bars, cafés, pousadas, markets, a post office, drugstores, automatic tellers, a travel agency, a car rental, local handicraft, shops, besides a very interesting taxi service.
One cannot miss São Francisco de Assis Chapel, the Village’s Patron and the protector of turtles and whales. The chapel has beautiful panels by Carlos Bastos, a famous artist from Bahia.
This is Praia do Forte, a tropical paradise that combines history, ecology and native culture. This is Brazil.
